Just saw this comment...haven't looked at My Page for ages - been busy in the Discussions :-) :-)
Yeouch! I'd expect $13.20 per book from a State/University/private library as I mentioned but getting an unexpected bill of $33 ....it is well worth checking out how much the books are to buy. Sometimes they are unexpectedly cheap. Or putting a search on Ebay which may take ages to get a book, but it's worth it in the end - rarer ones periodically come up at good prices.
Can you get a list of the books in your local embroidery guild and then decide whether it's worth the membership fees? Perhaps link us to the list so we can advise if you aren't so familiar with the books. Spinners and Weavers probably don't have quite the particular specialist *embroidery* library? I know I'm dying to join the Melbourne one, coz they have a great library but can't justify the expense myself. I can pull up their library list on the Net. I tend to want the whole book, and keep it.
The trouble is that we tend to go for books that are a bit rarer, and so are only held at special libraries and Embroidery Guilds.
Thanks for your comment on my blog. Two of my "Stitching Sisters" are in Australia - Jenny and Christine both have blogs that I link to. And my husband's nephew and his fiancee are teaching down under as well, so I feel I have a good connection to Australia even though I've never been there. I love the way we can connect through the Internet.
My husband and I did an early 50th trip to Sicily because he was invited to a conference. I think travel is the best thing you can do for a big birthday. I know another person who did the Galapagos Islands for her 40th. I may need to do that for 55.
