  • Hi Katie,  I am following you on floss tube and happy to find you here too. I am awaiting more of your Harmony tutorials as I plan to do your box as practice before beginning on the caskets in Trish's class.  I'm pretty afraid to begin the Curiosities classes for fear of destroying precious materials with 'beginner' mistakes.  Any suggestions from you would be very appreciated.  Hopeful 2022 will bring us a much calmer, better year.  Best, Barbara Dierolf (secretagent38 on instagram).

  • Katie I noted you did not cover the edges of the embroidered fabric with trim and read your comment about folding over the raw edge. Did you fold the edge over the paper backing and glue that before adhering the emboridered panel to the casket? The effect is lovey as you have finished it and I would like to reproduce this look in my casket. Thanks for your help and for sharing your beautiful work.

  • Katie, I am in at the School of Needlework and Design today for a volunteer day.  I've just had my first peek at your wonderful stitching!!  There are classes today so I will nee to wait until lunchtime to go around the exhibit slowly and appreciate the fabulous stitching!

  • Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, I really appreciate it.  I can't wait to see your mirror.  I am such a sucker for Stumpwork, I did a piece inspired by my Grandma a couple of years ago and it had more than 100 detached elements on it.  It's so easy to design them. Takes a bit of work to create them though!  They're well worth it though :)

  • Yes, you make an excellent point about the change in colours of threads based on the background around them.  I have been wondering about the strength of fabric and if you stitch with a layer of calico/muslin underneath as I do for my contemporary pieces to make the ground fabric more stable.  I am thinking that you probably don't because of the bulk it would add to the casket.  Sorry if this is already covered somewhere I haven't quite read through all my lessons yet, it's my June job!  I don't seem to be able to stop myself from designing my casket and I'm itching to get going so gathering all information I can! Thanks :)

  • I know of Mood from Project Runway - it looks fantastic.  I live in New Zealand and it is hard to get fabric here so I will probably need to get it from overseas.  I am especially  wondering what colour and type of silk did you use under the gorgeous rose you gifted to your mother.  I'm not sure what type or shade of silk to get for my casket which I am hoping to work heavily in Stumpwork.  Thanks :)

  • Hi Katie, can you tell me how many sheets you have used on your casket? What size are the sheets you have left? Wondering if the 4 you have left would do the large casket. Thanks Jane.

  • Hi, Katie, welcome to the class.
